Why Iron Stains Wood...

Iron stain is that
unsightly blue–black or gray
discoloration that can occur on nearly
all woods. Oak, redwood, cypress, and
cedar are particularly prone to iron
stain because these woods contain large
amounts of tannin-like extractives. The
discoloration and subsequent streaking
is caused by a chemical reaction between
extractives and iron in steel products,
such as nails, screws, and other
fasteners.

Radial Arm Saw Dust

Well after making
the shop a little more "user friendly" I finally got
around to building a much needed dust collection
hood for my Dewalt Radial Arm Saw. I had a
fundamental understanding of the basic design but
like many of the jigs and accessories I build
changes were made along the way.
